Canal Restoration Projects
Manchester, Bolton and Bury Canal
Water Plant Ltd has been involved in a number of canal restoration projects within the UK. The above photos show a small section of the Manchester, Bolton and Bury Canal. The photo on the left shows the original overgrown state of the canal. To the right the canal following clearance.
Works on this section included weed cutting, collection and removal of the cut vegetation. A large amount of debris removal also took place with 30 yard skips being removed from site on a regular basis. Debris ranged from small items of litter to larger items such as car and lorry wheels, bicycles frames and a 3 piece suite. Further along the canal, Water Plant Ltd worked together with a specialist contractor to remove a number of trees which were grown into the canal bank and which were only accessible from the water. The photos at the bottom of the page show another section of the canal before and after clearance.
Following the completion of the above works, Water Plant Ltd were pleased to set up and provide a regular maintenance programme for the canal. Indeed, Water Plant Ltd provide canal maintenance services throughout the UK. Maintenance tasks regularly involve weed cutting, reed cutting and debris removal with the aim of maintaining both the waterway and a pleasant environment.
